Couple exchanges vowsoutside own log cabinWedding vows were exchanged outside a log Cabin near Racine, W. Va., by Mary A. Pothoven, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Pothoven of New Sharon, and Ray E. Ratliff Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Ratliff Sr., of Blueficld, W. Va.The ceremony was performed at 10 a.m., Oct. 10, outside the log house which the couple had built and where they will make their home in the near future.Jim Somerville, a close friend of the couple and community mihister, spoke on the personal hnd. social aspects of the marriage before hearing the couple speak their own personal vows and witnessing the exchange of rings as symbols of their commitment.the celebration were Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Younkin of New Sharon and Mr. and Mrs. *Mar-ion Pothoven, Oskaloosa.The britle teaches English and science at Clear Fork High School in Coleord, W.Va., and the bridegroom is an attorney with Appalachion Research arid Defense Fund, a public interest law firm in Charleston, W.Va. He is also a part-time instructor at the West Virginia Institute of Technology in Montgomery.Thp couple is presently living at Lens Creek Mountain, Radne, W. Va. They plan to move into the log cabin next year when they have completed the work which will make it habitable for year-around residence. -AS A CLOSING for the marriage ceremony, guests planted spring flowering bulbs near the cabin to symbolize their continuing involvement in the growth and life of the . couple. |' David Morris led the group in singing “Bright Morning -Stars Are'Rising” as the bulbs were planted.Sheri Greenawaid of New York City, N.Y., a close friend of ithe bride, sang “The Sea is Awash, With Roses,” a poem by Kenneth Patchen, which she had set to music. She also joined Si Boettner, a friend of the,| bridegroom, in witnessing the ceremony.David and John Morris, who ate folksingers from Ivydale, W.Va., entertained throughout the day with guitar, banjo, autoharp P and fiddle music,, playing many of the tradition' al mountain songs.*A picnic dinner, which included barbequed chicken and homemade ice cream, was prepared by .' friends of the couple and served at noon.
