T.)R8Camp Life.Camp Dennison, Friday, May 24. Messes. Editors :—We have once more entered upon the duties of a soldier, after an absence of nearly two weeks, and had the extreme pleasure of being initiated into the manual exercise. We went through the “shoulder arms,” “present arms,’’ “order mty. arms,” etc., with pleasure, and we felt for atime, at least that we could take aim with aL.*th.T H ECES-SeewihionerDAYI!terningis as very10m-5mp-rcle-sus-port.istryi.veryrait-Wee too willty be donewho ' best r his ifica-havei».regg:o fill Therhosender call back nt of s orient:ILThe scenery in the rear and front of our Camp is delightful. We long to roam through the forest here, rest beneath the shade of some tall tree on the summit of the hills and view the imposing scene. The hills“ Rock-ribbed and ancient as the sun,The vales btretchiug iu pensive quietness between, are enough to inspire any one, with a spark of liberty in his soul. It was from the granitehills of New Hampshire and Vermont that “fighting men came, in our first revolution, to strike a blow for liberty; and at the present crisis their hardy sons are not at all backward. It is amid such scenes as these thatwe can look from ‘-Nature up to Nature s God, and in the tall oak that lifts its head heavenward, and the tender blade of grass, see the goodness of Him, “who tempers the wind to the shorn lamb. But we are digressing. Each volunteer of the 8th Regiment to-day received the first installment of clothing from “Uncle Sam,' which, though long and perhaps necessarily delayed, was heartily welcome to most of the soldiers. It consisted of shirts, drawers, stockings, and also boots and shoes to those who desired them. To-morrow we expect to be uniformed, when we shall present a warlike appearance indeed. The following is a list of the commissioned and non-commissioned officers of the Sandusky Guards in full, which has not yet been published in the Register:Captain—James E. The circulation of blood returned by the seasonable efforts of some of our squad, and tnough nowcap-theanyquite weak, is doing well. A soldier inK, of Cleveland,| (German,) who ventured in the same place, Pect | was rescued from a watery grave by the in-8*x j trepidity of Capt. Sterling and Zelora Eaton, liie^ ! ef Cleveland, who simultaneously plunged in-I to the river and brought him ashore. Ail honor to the two Clevelanders who thus timelyrict,andnestnin-ces-riedIs ofcur-nessrescued a fellow soldier! It would seem that this should be sufficient for one day at least, but we have one more ac-cident to chronicle, which terminated fatally.A private in Company F, of the 7th Regiment, was drowned and the river was dragged all the afternoon to fini the body, but ail efforts proving fruitless, a cannon was order.d from Cincinnati, and search will be resumed j fn7he in the morning. The Ellswi ate a : tion tl to us t fanati our vo efficiei school knowi he mi amourpromiCol.in Sar was, t twent;he mi He li'yearsa goodways i ing he for a l that c: ter w« his tal sinessaboutmoved and wsuppo and eposititthe Fr invest to the the mlt; to org Chicaj Forty and hlt; them i of taca tour rivedafter iern St fantas tions, from i lie. 1was abecamoriginStatesorganCol.
