What Others Thinkh Jesse James Alive?'At least, that 102 yea? old resident of Lawton, Okla., who has been going by the name of Frank Dalton but who Insists he is the realJesse James, the notorious bandit officially reported as shot to death in 1882, is getting what he probably desired to hare in the first place—nation-wide publicity.In fact, Dalton’s claim that he is Jesse Jameshas been discussed pro and con by many RiceCountians ever sines tbs news wires first carried the hard-to-believe story.In Northfleld, scene of the now historic andill-fated Northfleld National bank raid by members of the James-younger gang on September 7, 1876, residents are inclined to pooh-pooh tbs Oklahoman’! claim that Jesse James never was shot by Bob Ford, a member of the bandit gang, as historians contend, and that he is Jesse, himself.To most Bice Countians, as wen as Minnesotans In general, the Dalton Claim seems preposterous. if true, why would be choose to keep the fact secret for 68 years?. If he wanted to bask in the glory that ha felt a notorious desperado deserved to have why wouldn’t he seek that glory a'•few years after the JesseJames death was reported instead of now whenpeople would be more skeptical than ever?As one local resident put it, Jesse James alone knew where much of the bandit loot was hidden.
