Tuesday, May 23,1944Miss Laura CalvertWeds Clive MetcalfeMiss Laura Calvert, daughter o£ Mrs, Eliwbcth Culvert, and Clive Metcalfe, jr., son of Mr. and Mrs, Clive Metcalfe of this city)*, were married in St. James Episcopal church by the Rev. Van Garrett, Saturday evening at 7:30 o'clock.The impressive ceremony was performed in a candle-lit church which was decorated with arrangements Of white snapdragons and ferns. The bride who was given In marriage by her mother, wore a wedding gown of ivory satin made alung princess lines with sweeping skirt which ended in a dtichoss train. The tight fitting bodice of the dress had an elaborate yoke trimmed with applique of the satin and tiny ruffle of lace which was repeated at the edge of the bracelet length sleeves. Her veil of illusion was caught to a coronet of pearls and orange blossoms, and fell in a cascade to cover her train.. Her only ornament was a pearl necklace worn by every bride in the family for four generations. She carried a bride’s bouquet of gardinias and roses from which fell a shower of satin ribbons caught with rosebuds.Mrs. Calvert wore a formal ol king’s blue crepe with bead trim arid a cluster of dark red roses in her hair. Her shoulder bouquet was on the same flowers and she wore shoulder length white gloves.Miss Elizabeth Calvert, sister ot the bride, served as maid of honor. She wore a frock of punch glow satin made with full skirt and tight fitting bodice trimmed in sequins. In her hair was a c1us-l ter of talisman roses and she carried a French bouquet of talisman roses and multi colored sweet peas.Mr. Metcalfe was his sou’s best man. Prior to the entrance of the wedding party a program of nuptial music was played by Mrs. George Helms, who also played the conventional wedding marches..The ushers were Dan Smylhe, Jeff Sm.Vthc, Arthur Lyell and Edmund Metcalfe.Immediately after the wedding a reception was held in the borne of Miss Lollic Bass, aunt of llies bride, on Central avenue. The house was decorated through out with while daisies and ferns. The receiving line was made up of ihc wedding party. Miss Bass, Mrs. Metcalfe, mother of the groom, and Mrs. John A. Metcalfe, grandmother of the grnom. Miss Bass wore a frock of navy blue chiffon with pink hat and a shoulder bouquet of pink carnations. Here the bride’s tnhlc was covered with a lace doth and decorated with arrangements of daisies and ferns.
