Bob Waters, pastor, performed the ceremony.The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Dempsey of Gordonville. She is a graduate of Whitesboro High School and Texas AM University with a B.S. degree in education.The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Smart, Sr., of Houston. He is a graduate of Sam Houston Senior High School and Texas AM University with a B.S. degree is agricultural engineering.Wedding music was provided by Phil Southern of Houston, organist; and Annette Covington of Whitesboro, soloist, who sang, “If,” “Because, “There is I/jve,” Oh Perfect Love, and “The lord’s Prayer.”The bride given in marriage by her father, wore a formal heirloom gown designed by Frank Masandrea of Bridal Couture of ivory satin featuring a Victorian neckline of pleats. The bodice was appliqued with Brussels lace edged with scallops. The long -fitted sleeves were of Brussels lace and enhanced by a band of pleats at the cuffs.The bridal bouquet consisted of a cascade of ivory silk roses, China frost getsothelias, burgundy button mums, and ivy with seed pearls throughout the bouquet and ivory lace streamers. The bride also carried a Bible covered inivory satin and lace trimmed with pearls given to her by her parents. Behind the altar, a table contained a candelabra arch with white tapers entertwined with leather leaf and jewel commodore. Other decorations included spiral candelabra trees with white tapers and trimmed with jewel commodore. The altar railings were draped with English ivy and kneeling railings were covered with English ivy, leather leaf, jewel commodore, baby's breath, and votive candles.Decorations also included basekts containing white calla lillies, white gladiolas, white killian daisies, white snap dragons and white lilacs imported from Europe along with Boston ferns on pedestal stands.Attendants for the bride were Mrs. Jeff Culver, matron of honor, of College Station; and Diana Bertino of Whitesboro, Ann Furbush of Irving, Terri Wagner of Houston, and Beth Carnahan of College Station, were bridesmaids.Best man was Star Smith of College Station. Groomsmen were Mike Bonin of Jackson, Miss., Doug Smart of College Station, Marcus Stewart and Duane White of Houston.Ushers were Dial Boles of Beeville, Steve Crumley of San Antonio, James Woodfin of Marshall, and John Vite of College Station.Candlelighters were Mike Jordan of Marshall and Rick Olivarez of Victoria.The Texas AM University, Squadron 15, Seniors (1982) performed the Saber Arch following the recessional. Members of the Saber Arch were: Chris Walker, John Nigh, Pat Steiger of Houston, James McKellar of Alvin, Dennis Crane of Conroe, Bill Kahn of Austin, Glen Hansen of Jackson, Miss., and Bubba Correa of San Diego.Following the ceremony and Saber Arch, a reception was given by the parents of the bride. The bride’s white lace-covered table featured a tiered fountain cake decorated with maroon and pink silk flowers topped with white wedding bells and a walkway to other tiers topped by maroon and pink silk flowers. A large nine taper candelabra with maroon and pink silk flowers in the center also decorated the table.The groom’s white-lace and maroon covered table featured a cake and candelabra. Cake, punch, coffee, nuts, and mints were also served.Phil Southern of Houston, pianist, played background music during the reception.Members of the house party included: Jaylene Brown, Kim Harber of Whitesboro, Mrs. David Fredrick, Susan Smith, Mrs. Doug Smart, Lori Fisher of College Station, Peggy Telg, Kristie Tautenhahn of Houston, and Gibb Murray of Houston.The couple took a honeymoon trip to Jamaica. In August, Lt. and Mrs. Smart will make their home in Columbus, Miss., for further pilot training with the United States Air Force.
