Sheff is the young man who killed Charles E. Cardwell in Alton two weeks ago while Cardwell was trying to murder his wife, his moth-er-In-law and the young woman who became Siieff’s bride. At the time the killing occurred Sheff was calling on Miss Layton, Sheff shot Cardwell as he made a lunge at his fiancee with a long knife. The young woman said that she was engaged to-Sheff and was the principal witness at the coroner’s inquest. Sheff was exonerated by the coroner’s jury, and the young couple proceeded at cneo to make preparations to many.
