Mrs. Edwin Merle Edwards IIWILMINGTON — Margaret Ellen Efird of New Bern and Edwin Merle Edwards II of Kinston, were united in marriage at 6 p.m. May 19 in Trinity United Methodist Church,Wilmington, with the Rev.Carol W. Goehring officiating.The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Frank Efird of Wrightsville Beach.The bridegroom is the son of Rachel Parker Edwards of Kinston and Merle White Edwards of Ayden.Nuptial music was presented by organist Elizabeth Alexander and trumpeter Jeff Estep.Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a formal gown of ivory imported Italian silk. The fitted bodice featured a square neckline, short poufed sleeves and an empire waistline all encrusted with reembroidered alencon lace covered with French pearls and iridescents. The floor-length skirt extended into a cathedral-length train edged in matching re-embroidered alencon lace.Her cathedral-length veil fell from a band of fresh flowers and she carried a bouquet of white French bridal* roses, stephanotis and English ivy.Jan Elizabeth Efird of Wrightsville Beach was her sister’s maid of honor. Ellis Efird Furst of Wilmington was her sister’s matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Penny Leigh Edwards of Ayden, Sadie Francis Fowlfe of Weehawken, N.J., Mary Margaret Hill of Raleigh, Gena Melissa Kincaid of Charlotte, Denise Benfield of Cordova, Tenn., Nancy Jo Knox of Wilmington, Penny Pelletier Manning of Chapel Hill, Lori Ann McCoy of Kinston, Elizabeth Jill Walkerof New Bern and CourtneyMichelle Duncil of Goldsboro. Flower girls were Allison Lauren Duncil of Goldsboro and Lindsey Taylor Goehring of Wrightsville Beach.Merle White Edwards was his son’s best man. Ushers were David Christopher Edwards of Kinston, brother of the bridegroom, James Frank Efird Jr. of New Bern, brother of the bride, Donald Edward Furst of Wilmington, William Ransom Johnston, John Weaver Young, both of Durham, Joseph Wade Kincaid III of Charlotte, Edwin Grant Parker of South Natick, Mass. John Stokes Tunstall of Farmville, William Jackson Walker of New Bern and Robert Lee Wooten of Buies Creek. Acolytes were Thomas Lee Edwards Jr. of Greenville and Jordan Christian Somers of Charlotte. Ringbearers were Stuart Michael Edwards of Greenville and William Grant Parker of South Natick, Mass.A reception was hosted by thebride’s parents at the Surf Club, Wrightsville Beach.The bridal couple left for ahoneymoon to Antigua.The bride is a graduate of Arendell Parrott Academy, Kinston, St. Mary’s College, Raleigh and Campbell University, Buies Creek. She is associated with Efird Development Company, New Bern.The bridegroom is a graduate of Arendell Parrott Academy, Kinston and North Carolina State University, Raleigh. He is associated with his family’s business, Coastal Wholesale Grocery.A rehearsal dinner was hostedby the bridegroom’s parents atthe Surf Club, Wrightsville Beach.The bridal couple will reside in New Bern.
