—Mr. Henry Cwrey, an artist whose reputation has written his name very high in art circles, ia making Hur'.ingnn his home for the present, aoi as usual his studio is a kind of general club room for people who can appreciate art, and for young fellows who cannot resist the fascination that an artists studio alwajs exert*. We dropped in to smile upon the congregation the other day when Cary was transferring Monford to the canvass, and although tfce session was very short we could not help* thinking that if a verbatim report of the debate coull have boeu caught by the artist s flying pencils, the picture would have been worth about a thousand dollars to the sitter as a reminiscence. We often think ho much happier we would have »*en, had we not given up art, and chosen wealth, laying a*ide the sketch book for the note book. Hut we are not happy when we work. We swear at men who come in aud rustle the papers in our ears, and we heap maledictions on the heads of men who come in and ask us stupid questions, and we murder men who come iu and read us things that we don t want to hear, and never did want to hear, and have read and heard read five hundred times out of old exchange*, lfut Carey stands up and works with the convention in full blast all around him, and he occasionally participates in the del*te himself, and never gels mad nor misses a joke, and all the time the picture grows under his rapid, skillful touches like magic.
