Culp s (arm, in Foe ter township, for the purpose of parpoae of prospecting for natural gas at an old well dug for water some year* ago. Mr. I*, say* that If half the stories told by the people of that vicinity are true there must be an abundant supply of gas at that plaoe. When the old well referred to was dug to the depth of 102 ft. a vein of natural gas was struck, which,on being ignited, burned so fiercely that the owner became alarmed and had the well filledup. The Tki.kokai*u gave an aceountof the incident about the time it occurred and has referred to it a number of times since.
