A Clever Mechanic. When Byron Earnshaw, of Minnie Lake, was in Nicola recently, he paid a visit to the Herald office, and brought with him a kaleidoscope of his own construction, which is rather unique. In the ordinary instrument the figures are made by means of colored glass, and the instrument is rotated to give the various patterns. In the instrument constructed by Mr. Earnshaw any sort of material can be placed in a plate below the instrument, and the plate is rotated, forming some most beautiful patterns, with a stereoscopic effect. This improved instrument is the invention of Mr. Earnshaw’s brother, and has had a very large sale. The patterns formedby this improved kaleidoscope have beenextensively used as designs for carpets, rugs, etc., and can be used for all kinds of ornamental work. Anyone interested can inspect the instrument at theHerald office, where Mr. Earnshaw haskindly left it.
