She hai been a frequent visitor to “Carpet Alley,” a miserable hell-hole, and negro quarters. When she was tried she wentby the name of Stout, but the parties who called for the marriage license gave her name as Nichols. There were two witnesses at the Clerks office with Thornton when he secured the license, and the Clerk did not know the Nichols woman was a white wo man; but be would have knowu it if they bad giveu the name of Stout.There is no law restraining the Clerk%from issuing such a license. Rev. Chapman Harris (col.) united the couple iu marriage. The marriage is void according to the law, and, it we mistake not, the minister and witnesses are alio liable to fine and imprison-meut.
