SCOTTSDALE PROGRESSThe Scottsdale Progress invites letters from its readers and will publish them if they are of general Interest and bear the signature of the writer.Editors note. The following is one of a series of articles by Mr. Corral on the construction of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic church here.Editor, Scottsdale ProgressThe two old folks were now missing. We talked about their passing away as we worked. The flagstone that we used on the floors had offered a saving against solid concrete. The stain glass windows were done by Bernabe Herrera, and I must not forget that, the heavy lumber for the roof was donated by a Catholic society in Chicago, Illinois. As a last effort the interior walls were plastered with dirt and sand. The exterior walls have only the prime or brown coat.We now have an unfinished church clear of all debts. But within its walls exists a warmth which offers solace to the afflicted. At the altar stands the Mother of Perpeti^al Help in statue form. I’ll put it in the words of Father Philip Aggeler of Whittier, Calif.“In over a hundred missions all over the Untied States T had never seen our Lady of Perpetual Help in statue form. I Certainly wish to congratulate you people of Scottsdale.” This virgin was imported from Old Mexico by the Domingues family of Scottsdale. It’s a beautiful piece of artNot very long ago I met some people from California. They plan on moving their business to Scottsdale. I took them to see our church. They were quite impressed by our patron Saint. When I had ‘explained our religious obligations they admitted that the mission offered them a sort of warm welcome. If they had been undecided about staying before, they certainly were not now. I did, not invite them to attend Mass. That’s entirely Tip to them. We are all free to worship God as we please.Father Lawrence and Father Rook have been working hard toward the completion of our j Temple. The Scottsdale Catholic club is also working hard in their support. We will soon make needed repairs and a wall or fence around the premises is almostScout Drive Total Nearing $30,000A total of nearly $30,000 has been collected by the Roosevelt Council, Boy Scouts of America, in its drive to “Open the Door for 5,000 More,” John T.
