College Graduates To Wed June 29 Rev. R. H. Merrill to Read Ceremony at Church Near Cass Of foremost social importance is the engagement of Miss Mary Kath erine Shaffer and Mr. Frank Abney Hardy, which is being announced today by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Emory Peale Shaffer of Cass. Mr. Hardy is the son of Mrs. Waller Cecil Hardy of Virginia Street, and the late Mr. Hardy. Merrills Entertain Mr. and Mrs. John Buffington Merrill gave a cocktail, party yes terday afternoon at their home in South Hilla for Miss Shaffer and her fiance, at which time the en parament was made known to their ends. The wedding will take place on the afternoon of June 2% in the Liberty Presbyterian church, near Cass. Rev. A. H. Merrill of this city will read the ceremony, which will be followed by a small recep tion for the wedding party, fami lies and a few close friends at the Shaffer home. Miss Sheffer, a cousin of Federal Judge George McClintic of Kan awha street, was graduated from the National Cathedral school in Washington in 1933, and received a bachelor of arts degree from Sweet Briar’ college in 1987. While at college, she was secretary of the student government association, a member of Paints and Patches dra matic club, and an attendant in the May Day court. She attended the Charleston School of Commerce during the winter and resided at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Bert Bradford, Jr., in Quarrier street. Miss Shaffer, an attractive member of the younger social set, is a member of the Charleston Tennis club. Her father is head of the lumber department of the West Virginia Pulp and Paper company. Is Dartmouth Graduate Mr. Hardy, whose family is prominent in social and business circles here, is the grandson of the late Mr. Francis W. Abney, and a nephew of Miss Katie Belle Abney of Kanawha street, and Mrs. John S. Dana of Pasadena, Calif. form erly of this city and Lewisburg. He was graduated from Augusta Military academy in Fort Defiance, Vea, and received an A.B. degree from Dartmouth college, where he was a member of Theta Delta Chi social fraternity, and musical clubs. He was graduated from Harvard Business school in 1936. He is a member of the New York Stock Exchange, resident part ner of Walter C.
