Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. Diehl, were hosts to about 600 friends and relatives at the Turner Hall on Sunday afternoon and evening in honor of their 50th wedding anniversary.Open house was held from 6 to 8 p.m. after which dancing followed to the music of Virgil Crook and his Orchestra.Charles Diehl and the former Laura Horcher were married at St. Joseph Catholic Church, East St. Louis, April 30, 1917 by Rev. Eugene Traynor. Attendants were Adolph Hick and the late Mary (Horcher) Hick.Mr. and Mrs. Diehl have two sons, Norman, who operates Diehl Flower Shop and Nur-i sery, in Columbia, and LeRoy, who also operates a florist shop, known as Diehl Florist in Waterloo. Their two daughters-in-law, are the former Caroline Baumer, wife of Norman and the former Ruth Kuehner, wife of LeRoy. They have eight grandchildren, Thomas, Barbara, Christine, Patricia and Jennifer, children of Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Diehl; and Norma Jean, Sharon Kay and Kevin, children of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Diehl.Mr. and Mrs. Diehl opened a floral shop in 1920 and operated the business, which enjoyed continuous growth, for 40 years.
