The Washington correspondent of the Boston Advertiser has some interesting gossip about the ownership of the Rogers-house, near the White-house. Henry Clay used to own the lot on which it stands. He was especially devoted to the Ashland farm and the live stock upon it. One day old Commodore John Rogers came home from the Mediterranean with his naval vessel full oi live stock which he had picked up ibroad. The cargo included one fine Andalusian jackass. Clay wanted it for his farm. All his offers were rejected,an til one day the Commodore said, in aJoke: ‘* You can have him for your lot opposite the White-house. * ‘ Done, ** vas Clay’s reply, and the animal was ihipped off to Kentucky. The Commo-lore built the now historic house, which Secretary Seward occupied during the var. Rere Payne endeavored to ass as* tin ate him on the night when Presidesuincoln was shot. The lot is now valued * $40,000.
