E.LOCAL OFFICERS FIRST TN niS-ITRICT RITUALISTIC CONTESTAT GALESBURGMarshall of Strongnurst, III., was, cut about the head and arms after an altercation with two men, at Third and Elm streets, Tuesday morning. After his wounds were dressed at St. Francis hospital he secured a warrant charging Perry Totten and an unidentified man, named in the warrant as John Doe, with assault with deadly weapons. The police have not been able to arrest either man.Marshall was walking with a woman, who gave the name of Ella! Walker, of Keokuk, when he was attacked. She was held at the police* station until Tuesday noon and then allowed to leave without any charges made against her.Marshall said that he met the woman at the Wagner hotel Monday night and loaned her some money. She was in front of the hotel Tuesday morning, he said, when he came from his room and asked him to walk to her room near Third and Eim streets. On the way she told him that some man was trying to “get him.Just before he reached the corner, he said, the woman pointed to a man approaching him and said “That’s the man that’s after you.”Marshall said he looked up and saw’ Totten coming at him with a knife. Before Totten reached me, he said, someone hit him from behind his back and knocked him unconscious. He believes that the knife wounds were received after he fell. He claimed to have lost $20 from his pants pocket, but cald that $50 in another pocket was overlooked.County Attorney Jackson said that he doubted the man’s story of being robbed. Marshall admitted to Chief of Police Schwenker that he had given money to Ella Walker but did not accuse her of robbing him. The woman declares that Totter cat Marshall and said that she has been acquainted with Totten for some time.
