HP! — An official of the i Vatican’s Christian Unity Secretariat, discussing Anglican Archbishop Michael Ramsey’s imminent visit to the Vatican says Roman Catholicism is now ready to listen on questions like mixed marriage.“The two churches are ready!to hear each other, not only tospeak to each other,” is the wayDutch - born Bishop Jon J. Wille-brands, secretary of the unity secreiariat, puts it.HE WAS discussing the March 22-24 visit of the archbishop of Canterbury. He told reporters he thought the encounter would bring a hastening of study rather than any immediate answer in such areas as mixed marriages between Roman Cathoiies andother Christians.At present the non Catholic party in such a marriage must make a written promise to baptize and raise children as Roman Catholics. Some Roman Catholic j bishops would prefer to have the Roman Catholic party make the . promise. Pope Paul VI is known to be preparing a pronouncement on the question.“The fact that the head of onechurch is able to express himself to the head of our church is Important,” said Bishop Wille-brands.“Thus Anglicanism will represent the whole ‘other party’ in mixed marriage, at this meeting.“Since the Vatican Ecumenical Council the church will hear. She will listen to the other party.”Another member of the secretariat, the Rev. Thomas Stran-sky of Milwaukee. Wis., said of the papal visit of the head of the Anglican communion:“The archbishop has made it clear that this will be no teaparty.“THEY WILL be completelyalone for two hours. It is hardto foresee what they will discussduring that time. It could be that they will talk about only one thing, or many things.“But if you are aware of the personality and background of Archbishop Ramsey then you kmw that, in a gentlemanly way. he is quite frank.”
