CENTRAL P.T.A.Attorney Discusses Interna-national Lawlessness at School MeetingJUDGE HAMMETTNEW PRESIDENTthejeneWhat Pattern Do We Set for World Order.Based on Law? Attorney Richard Chamier last night asked Central F^T.A. members at a meeting at the school. Not long ago,’' the speaker said, you had the privilege of seeing the lire of Jesse James portrayed on the screen. The history of the world today is, in a way, the same as the history of the life of Jesse James. For a time he employed a lawless method. of securing justice, inevitably there came a reckoning. Lawlessness was combated by public opinion. Now law and order is the rule, not the exception. Can, we do ths same with lawless, countries ?” he asked, and continued, “We have countries today , who believe they have been treated unjustly; They are trying to get revenge in the same lawless manner as Jesse Janie^ did. Whether these Jesse Jameses of today are justified in what they are doing; is not the question. The question is ‘What are we going to; do about it ? ’The Isolation Argument Not long ago I saw a cartoon depicting Uncle Sam with a long nose and under it the wofds, Nosey Uncle Sam.' Many people, say that Europe ha,s its own troubles and that we should let them solve them themselves. They say we are self-sufficient and do not need to be concerned . with economic trade of the world, irds ! They say they have their own be- i morals and it is none of our bus-oc- in ess.-Q;i “Some people said in the days I of Jesse James, ‘Let him alone, eel He isn’t hurting us.’ These ‘same people changed their tune when James and his lawless band entered their country. We hear that if we let Europe work out its own way, Germany in 10 years - will be controlling Europe and that wouldn’t bother us; let them settle their troubles themselves and there will be less bad blood as a result.For. many years England maintained the balance of power and always to her own ad van-’, tage. It would be quite a problem for us to go into Europe and decide whether , dictatorships are right or wrong. There are certain principles which we believe are right and just. These principles have been, made a laughing stock. Our country must have a. con-■ science that rebels against wrong, and injustice.. Are we going to stand back and permit institutions that American blood has been shed for to be wiped off the earth? ■*Would Defend Flag Some people say an indignity to our flag is not worth the lives of^ many men. What would you think • if that. Ameidcan flag . was the only thing that stood between you and death? How long would boys allow a bully in the neighborhood to beat up a small boy and not do anything about it ?“What can our influence do? Can we let the. survival of the strongest rule in Europe and sit back and *say, as Herod -and Pharisee said, ‘It's none of my business. I wash my hands of. the whole /thing'?At one time in this country the rule of the strongest predominated.. The man who could shoot the quickest was the law. We stopped that, practice in this country many years ago. Are we going to stop it when it comes to i nations ? Have we grown up in-' ternationaliy, or not ? Shall we sit on our porch in peace and safety while the weak and helpless are being beaten and killed? Our question is 'What pattern do we set for world order based on law ? What are you going to do about it?”Demonstration By Soouts Following Chamior’s talk several members of Scout Troop 65, with their scout master, Jack Gulick, gave some, demonstrations of their work such as first aid, artificial respiration, fire by flint and steel and by friction.
