“We first noticed them (theRemains of 12 South Plains men who lost their lives during World War II, as well as a number from the Panhandle area, are being returned to the United States from Europe aboard the United States Army transportBarney Kirschbaum, the Army department has announced.*A total of 6,785 American war dead are aboard the vessel, ofwhich 371 are being returned on instructions of next of kin residing in Texas. Armed forces dead originally interred in temporary military cemeteries in France, Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg, and England are among those beingreturned to this country.The Army department stated that each next of kin would be notified in advance of the arrival of thevessel, and again after arrival ofthe remains at the regional distribution centers of the American Graves Registration service.South Plains war dead being returned, with next of kin as listed by the Army, are:
