Carlyle Rutledge of 617 Oakshade avenue announce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Martha Rea Rutledge, to Ernest Michael Macon Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest M. Macon Sr., 2115 Sprucewood drive, Greensboro.An early August wedding in Trinity Methodist church is being planned by the couple who met during the spring of Martha’s sophomore year at Woman’s college.Ernest was arranging dates for some of his friends with some of Martha’s friends. They, themselves, started dating later that year while attending summer school at Chapel Hill.Standby ReserveSince that summer (1961), Ernest has served in the United States Army Medical Corps as a laboratory specialist and is now a member of the standby reserve.He teaches chemistry at East Mecklenburg high school, Charlotte, and is a member of the UNC Fifth Year program, a Master’s Degree program under the Ford Foundation.Mr. Macon was graduated from Jamestown high school. Jamestown. N. C., and earned an A.B. degree in chemistry in 1963 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where be was vice president of Rho chapter of Alpha Chi Sigma and belonged to the college's Men’s Glee club.Teaches SchoolMiss Rutledge teaches the third grade at Sedgefield Elementary school. Charlotte. She received Ernest’s fraternity pin on Christmas. 1962, and spent the summer of 1963 touring Europe with UNC Seminar’s Abroad of the UNC YMCA.A granddaughter of Mrs. F. B Kuykendal. 809 Ashwood street, Miss Rutledge is an alumna of A. L. Brown high school and was graduated in 1963 from I Woman’s college of the Univer-j sity of North Carolina at Greensboro where she belonged to the I Dolphin-Seal lt;aquatic group), and held dormitory offices and various other campus positions.
