Summer flower arrangements were placed in the foyer, on the register table and beside the gift table.An honored guest for the reception was Mrs. Adkins’ father, John Gunn, who is 96.Mrs. Adkins received in a pink lace dress enhanced with a strand of pearls and a white orchid corsage. Daughters and granddaughters of the honored couple wore floor-length skirts.Grandchildren of Mr. and Mrs. Adkins present for the afternoon were: Mr. and Mrs. James Long, Bernard Long and Paul Long of Portsmouth, Va., Misses Debbie and Patricia Lazenby and Michael Lazenby of Statesville, Charles and John Myers of Lenoir, and one great-grandson, John David Long of Portsmouth, Va., making five generations in all.Other out-of-town guests included Mrs. Adkins' only brother, A. K. Gunn, and Mrs. Gunn of Hickory; also, brothers and sisters-in-law of Mr. Adkins: Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Adkins cf Cumming, Ga., Mr. and Mrs. Flake L. Adkins of Winston-Salem; and his sisters: Mrs. Nora Adkins Cowan and Miss Hazel Adkins of Mt. Ulla. Another sister, Mrs. B. D. Walters of Statesville was also present.
