JamesFrom page 1Sunday’s presentation was viewed with humor by some of the fans of Jesse James.“I don’t think there was ever a case where the granddaughter of a man who robbed a bank gave the building a plaque commemorating it, said David Chambers, of Thousand Oaks, Calif, who publishes books about frontier and Civil War history.Chambers said that while the James gang took lots of money in robberies, Td have to say Jesse is giving back a lot to these towns through historical recognition.Troost said the bank building, which dates to the 1860s, is being renovated to house an antique shop. The structure’s original brick and cast-iron fronts are being restored.Jesse James was shot to death in St. Joseph, Mo., on Apnl 3,1882.Cindy Dickmeyer, mayor of Lexington, said: “Although Jesse is long gone, I remember as a child hearing about the robbery. I never heard it told as a story of a bad thing. It was a romantic tale. It’s living history to know it happened here *
