- aaElkton Notes, tfrom the lndexK'Hr. George H. Baker has resigned as foreman'of the Index office.Mr. W. D. L. Bojrum, General Manager of the Canning Company, has purchased the entire outfit ol machinery, kettles, etc., for-his lactory, and hopes to begin work next week.Mr. Gaylord, in charge of the hotel bakery, and Miss Mollie McDaniel, one of the attendants, recently decided to walk life’s path in company, and last Wednes* day proceeded to Harrisonburg for the purpose of securing 'the sanction of the church to their union. It is understood that the young couple will return to Elkton and resume their positions at the hotel. Many good wishes for their happiness are expressed by the guests.Contracts have been signed with the McGahey Bros, for an engine manufactory and general machine works. They have patents on a new style of steam engine, by which strength, durability, simplicity, and^ cheapness of cost is combined with econlt; omy of fuel; and they will manufacture these engines at Elkton. • .rj-. .The Water-front arid Amusement Company was formed, last week by several progressive spirits of Elkton,' and .a three years, lease obtained from the Elkton Improvement Company for the; water -frontage on their land. This company has commenced the work of cleaning ftway the rubbish and undergrowth along the -banks of the She$andoali River, which flows at the foot of the beautiful .hotel grounds. The company is erecting rustic seats upon the grounds* building bath houses, boat houses and a pier sixty feet long- A large number of bathing suits and a car load of beautiful boats have been ordered and are expectecLto arrive in a levy days. We are informed,.by the management that a dy» namo will be placed- to furnish: electricity to light up the river-.
