They were married in the Oakland Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. (Foch's)Roxane Gilliam Weds Virgil AtkinsonAn empire gown of quiana jersey was donned by Roxane Gilliam for her marriage to Virgil Atkinson in the Oakland Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.Roxane is the daugther of Mr. and Mrs. Robert G. Gilliam and the bridgroom is the son of Virgil D. Atkinson, all of Yuba City.The bride’s gown was fashioned with soft flowing skirt made with a chapel-length train, a high filled neckline banded with venise lace and accented by seed pearls, long, fitted sleeves with matching lace and buttons at the wrists. Her fingertip veil of silk illusion, edged in matching lace, fell from a Juliet cap with matching lace scattered with seed pearls. Carleen Allred donned a baby blue broadcloth gown made with an empire waist, square neckline and short sleeves trimmed with white lace. She carried long-stemmed blue silk roses, baby’s breath and fern caught by navy blue streamers.Dressed identical to the maid of honor were Mary Noordhoff. Brenda Dastrup. Raquel Allred and Debbie Norene, the bridesmaids. They also carried long-stemmed blue silk roses, baby's breath and fern.Kit Jenkins assumed best man duties and ushers were Delton Atkinson. Carl Atkinson and Rick Allred.For the occasion, the bride’s mother chose a champagne flowered sheer polyester gown made with a square neckline, capelet sleeves, an empire waist and deep hemline ruffle edged with champagne lace She wore a corsage of pink baby roses.The newlyweds received inOURNEW PROGRAMTHEY’RE EATINGIT UP!the LDS Church on Clark Avenue. Yuba City. About 250 guests attended.Long blue ribbons hung from standing bird cage baskets of blue and white straw, snapdragon, carnations, chrysanthemums, daisies, baby’s breath and fern which were placed beside an ivy-covered arch where the couple received guests.The three-tiered wedding cake was topped by blown-glass wedding bells and doves and frosted in white. Baby blue roses and bows accented the cake, which was encircled at the base by white daisies and fern. The cake was made by Mrs. Joseph Becker of Yuba City.Serving guests were Mrs. Howard Hall, Shelley Nason, Shannon Myers and Sue McLean. Diane Townsend handled the guest book and Donna Carr was in charge of the gift table.Roxane is a 1973 graduate of Yuba City High School and she attended Yuba College. Her husband, a 1972 graduate of YCHS. is attending Yuba College. He recently completed a two-year mission for the LDS Church.Prior to their marriage. Roxane was feted at a shower hosted by Mrs. Shannon Myers A second shower was hosted by the maid of honor.Out - of - town wedding guests included: Susan Becker and Michael Kelly of San Jose.
