He had taken a pistol from a man •who was . making ilenienfitratrons of violence .with it, and was in the net of discharging its contents when one of the screws that secure the barrel to the stock came loose, and vras driven into his hand lry the concussion of the discharge- The hand wna then, caught between the barrel and the stock, which, from the concussion caused 1J the discharge, had sprung apart and again immediately closed, the remaining screw in the stock acting ni the same time as a pivot for the parts to work on and a spring to hold them together, hfier the force of the explosion had ceased. It wa9 with considerable difficulty that the hand* was released, ;the screw which bad penetrated the .hand between, the thuroV and' the fore-finger having to be cat out, and then the hand released from the clasp of the pistol by ihe withdrawal of the remaining screw from the stock and barrel. The injury will deprive the Captain of the free nae of his hand for some time. •
