Saiart-hout and daughter, Jessie, of Chicago, visited friends in St. Louis, but the lond mother never dreamed that she was unconsciously leading her lovely daughter to the hymeneal altar, for if lg she had possibly she would have gone alone. But love laughs at locksmiths and possibly the same results would have come about in time. Anyway Miss Smarthout was betrothed to Walter Burgess, whose home is in this city but was, at the time our story opens, employed in a railroad office in St. Louis.The lovers met frequently and on June 10th they sought out Rev. Dr. Cunningham of the Methodist church and were married. As the parents of both contracting parties objected to •their union, the lovers decided to keep the matter quiet for a time at least. Accordingly Miss Jessie returned with her mother to Chicago and Walter remained in St. Louis. About a week ago Miss Jessie broke the news quietly to her mother and shortly afterward Walter joined his bride and they are now traveling in the east on their wedding tour.Mrs. Burgess received a letter this morning from her son at Niagara Falls informing her of his marriage.imlt-PORCH PARTY.
