TESSNEERJack Butts, 21. son of Mr. and Mrs. Archie Butts, Belleville, was named today as The Monroe Evening TTmes Silver Slugger to play in the Wisconsin-Upper Michigan All-Star game Saturday, Aug. 1, in Milwaukee County Stadium.Butts won the spot for his performance at the Times Silver Slugger baseball school June 18 and 19 in Recreation Park. The Belleville player measures five feet, nine inches, weighs 160 pounds, throws right handed and bats left handed.He usually plays shortstop, but this season he has been doing a great deal of fine pitching for the Belleville Home Talent I League baseball team.Butts will be a guest of the . Milwaukee Braves along with 21 , other All-Star players at the Plankinton House hotel Friday and Saturday. The Monroe Evening Times will pay traveling expenses.Silver Slugger baseball instructors Emil Beiich and Allen , Eiger were impressed with Butts' alert playing at shortstop He has beep playing at that position with the Belleville team since he graduated from high school there in 1955.But this season he tried out his arm on the mound, and earned a spot as a regular pitcher Last Sunday in the Southern * division’s 16 to 5 win oved the Western division in ope of the Home Talent All-Star games. Butts fanned five batters and allowed only one hit in three innings.Butts lives with his parents on a farm near Belleville. He is presently employed as a carpenter w?th Donald Schuler in Belleville.He played baseball and basket- j ball in high school, earning awards in both sports. He attended one year in New Glarus * and finished in Belleville.Jack, along with other Silver Slugger All-Star players, will register Friday in the Plankinton House hotel. A special bus will take them to Milwaukee County Stadium for a Milwaukee Braves -St. Louis Cardinal game.They will leave early for the stadium Saturday rpoming to warm up for the All-Star games j Friday evening meals and Sat urday breakfast will be in the hotel coffee snop and the Brav- j es organization will pick up the tab.Th$ All-Sfar game will begin \ at 10 a.m. After the game players will shower in the Braves’ tryout room and meet Braves players in the dugout They will see another Braves-Card game in the afternoon. ,In the evning the All - Star j players will be honored at a banquet The selection of two plav- j ers for the National Junior All-Star game in New York Yankee Stadium Aug. 18 and 10 players to work out at the Braves’ minor ' league camp in Waycross, Ga.. 1 will be announced. .Each Silver Slugger All-Star ' player will receive a certificate ]Turn to Vo. 1, Bark Pare
