Davis-GentryHolly Elizabeth Davis of La Grange and Mark Scott Gentry of Goldsboro were married at 2 p.m. July 26, 2003, at Community Baptist Church in La Grange.The Revs. Dean Hightower and Norman Davis Jr. performed the ceremony.Escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents, the bride is the daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Norman Davis Jr. of La Grange. She is the granddaughter of Frances and Norman Davis Sr. of Kinston, Frances Taylor of Kinston and the late Paul Taylor Sr., and Herbert Alphin of La Grange and the late Hazel Harper Alphin.A1996 graduate of Wayne Christian School, she is a 2003 graduate of Campbell University’s School of Pharmacy.The groom is the son of M. B. and Annetia Gentry of Goldsboro. He is the grandson of Odean Gay of Searcy, Ark., and the late Carthal Gay, and the late Martin and Retta Gentry, who also lived in Searcy, Ark.A1991 graduate of WCS, he is a 1995 graduate of Mount Olive College. He is a manufacturing coordinator with Bayer Pharmaceutical in Clayton.Following a wedding trip to St. Maarten, the couple will reside in Goldsboro.The bride wore a white designer gown by Oleg Cassini. It was a«atin A-line gown with organza overlay, completely adorned with embroidered floral prints with crystal beads in the flowers.The double-pleated strapless bodice was embroidered and accented with a satin belt at the waistline. The back featured satin buttons down the zipper. The skirt featured the same embroidery flowing into the chapel-length train.Her elbow-length veil of white illusion, trimmed with white satin ribbon, flowed from a comb of pearls and rhinestones. It was made by the groom’s mother.Mrs. Mark Scott GentryThe bride carried a bouquet of white Virginia roses and white rubrum lilies, interspersed with Italian ruscus. The bouquet was hand-tied with satin-edged ribbon.The bride’s sister, Dana Davis Thacker of Indianapolis, Ind., was the matron of honor. Bridesmaids were the bride’s cousin, Marenda Everett of Kinston; Kim Crow of Charlotte; Mary Beth Honeycutt of Smithfield; Niki Goad of Collinsville, Va.; and Kristie Osborne of Rural Retreat, VaHonorary bridesmaids were Amie Elliott of Chapel Hill, Joanne Honn of Goldsboro and RebeccaKing of Durham.The bride’s cousin, Ashley Taylor of Lyons, Ga., and the groom’s niece, Danielle Gentry of Goldsboro, were the flower girls.The groom’s father served as the best man. Groomsmen were the groom’s brother, Tim Gentry; and Wayne Boswell, Stephen Burnett, Joe Carlyle and Jed Honn, all of Goldsboro.Ushers were the groom’s nephews, Jason Long of Goldsboro; Jonathan Long of Statesville; and Colt Montgomery of Melbourne, Ark.The groom’s nephew, Chandler Gentry of Goldsboro, and the bride’s cousin,Nicholas Taylor of Lyons, Ga., were the ring bearers.Music was provided by Mary Margaret Harrison, pianist; Lynn Sanders, soloist; and Michelle Foss, Jessie Hightower and Erin Sanders, vocal ensemble.Kathy Sanders directed the wedding and Amy Pitman was the scripture reader.Lisa Alphin was the register attendant and Marla Alphin was the program attendant.Reception/PartiesImmediately following the ceremony, a reception was given by the Community Baptist Church family in the family life center of New Hope Friends Church. Lynn Gentry, Pam Long and Patty Montgomery served cake. Lisa Alphin and Marla Alphin served punch.On Dec. 29, a Christmas shower was given by the women of Community Baptist Church in the fellowship hall.On May 10, a lingerie shower was given by Dana Davis Thacker at the home of the bride’s parents.On June 22, a miscellaneous shower was given by the Community Baptist Church family at the home of Karen Foss.On July 12, a home and garden shower and pig pickin’ was given by Tim, Lynn, Danielle and Chandler Gentry at their home.On July 20, a miscellaneous shower was given by Margaret Barwick, Wanda Taylor and Shelby Tyndall at the Barwick home.On July 22, a dinner and shower was given by friends of the groom at Ruby Tuesdays in Smithfield.On July 24, a dinner was given by Frances Taylor; Paul Taylor Jr.; Alan, Haro-la, Ashley and Nicholas Taylor; Ernie and Marenda Everett; and David and Dana Thacker at Car-raway’s Restaurant.On July 25, a rehearsal dinner was given by the groom’s family at WalnutCreek Country Club.
