Rome Methodist Church was the setting on July 8 for a very colorful 8 o’clock candlelight wedding when Miss Kay C. Rowe became the bride of Donald H. Sluyter. The church was decorated with white candelabra, white baskets of white mums and white gladioli with white candles and daisies in each window. Music was provided by Miss Marilyn Allis who not only played the traditional selections but also accompanied Mrs. Jean Arnold who sang, ‘Always’, “I Love You Truly’ and “The Lord’s Prayer” during which the bride and groom knelt at the altar. The bride wore a full length gown of pure silk accented with Rochelle and Venice laces. The empire bodice featured a sheer yoke and stand-up collar etched with single streamers of Venice lace daisies. The waistline was shaped with the Rochelle lace, with repeats of the daisy motif. Her skirt was a semi-full A-line ending in a circular shapel length train. Her full length mantilla was attached to a Popes cap covered with Venice daisies. The bride carried a cascade bouquet of white sweetheart roses and baby’s breath which was shaded to match each attendant’s gown. Mrs. Grace Hayward of Rome, sister of the bride, was matron of honor and wore a floor-length gown and white Venice lace. Designed to compliment the bride’s gown, her gown boasted an empire bodice, completely covered with Venice lace and long full lace cuffed sleeves, worn over a softly gathered skirt. To complete her attire she wore a garden hat of horsehair dyed to match her gown, accented with silk bows and silk floweretts. The bridemaids were attired in gowns of rainbow hues of pastels styled identically to the matron of honor. They were Mrs. Sally Dempsey of Waverly whose gown was ice blue, Miss Joyce Cash dollar, in Nile green, Miss Mary Ann Schoonover in apricot, and Miss Jean Hovan in maize. The bridesmaids carried nosegays of carnations tinted to match their dresses and hats. James Cashdollar of Rome served as best man and the guests were seated by Robert Hayward Sr., David Simons, Michael Rogers, and David Smith, all of Rome. Lisa Lee Hayward, niece of the bride, was flower girl and wore lilac to match the matron of honor. Robert Lee Hayward Jr., nephew of the bride, was ring bearer. The bride’s mother was attired in a street length coat dress of mauve pink acetate taffeta with a corsage of pink rosebuds. The bridegroom's mother wore a street length dress of dark lavender and white with a cor sage of lavender rosebuds. Following the ceremony a buffet lunch was served to about 200 people at a reception in the Wysox Fire Hall. Music there was provided by William Sluyter.
