78 years of age, was born in Monroe, Mich., and was brought to Elkhart when a child by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. .James Downing, who were pioneer residents, and Mrs. Ward and her husband lived here over fifty yeafrs before they went to the home of their son, Walter, at Eau Claire. She. is survived by a brother, Walter Downing of Keota, Iowa, her son, Walter Ward; and Lincoln Proctor and Mrs. Ella Crowley of this city, who are children of her sister.Rev. J. B. Carter, a retired Baptist minister, died at Plymouth on Monday, aged nearly seventy-four. Interment at Portsmouth, O.John H. Niles * of Mishawaka died Sunday, aged sixty-nine. They will remain a short time, and then return to Elkhart, when Mr. Dodge will• sdetermine * upon one of several pro-positons he has been entertaining since he definitely decided not to return to the Isthmus, of Panama, where he was engaged in the civil engineering department from last October until called home in March by the fatal illness of his father, the late^ Henry i 0.
