They said it provides the current volunteer firefighters with a link to their predecessors. It also gives former department members a renewed memory.Herbert Adler, who was a member of the department when the Model-T was purchased in 1924, said the truck is a reminder of how far firefighting has advanced.“The truck operated by a chemical reaction,” Adler explained. “A glass container of chemicals inside the tank would be broken and the reaction would create suction so we could pump water from cisterns. The truck wasn’t worth a hoot for anything but a small fire, but it’s still a nice memory.”
