MILES-MONROE, MARTIN — Gloria Miles, Monroe and John Crawford Martin were united in matrimony May 6, 1995 in Crockett, Tex. Mary Ann Gately of Texas City served as matron of honor and Mary Jane Walker of Crockett served as bridesmaid. Harold Walker of Crockett was bestman. Mr. and Mrs. Walker hosted a wedding brunch for the couple in Crockett following the ceremony. John and Gloria were feted in Nacogdoches at the Free-donia Hotel by Mrs. Ernestine Fountain. On May 27, the couple was honored with a reception in Texas City at the home of Tom and Louella Smith, with a buffet dinner for 100 guests. Gloria is the daughter of the late Charles Dee, Sr. and Mary Jane Miles, of Texas City. Gloria is a professional song writer of national standing , and co-author of Texas City By the Bay, written for Texas City's All America City competition. John is the son of the late E. C. and Mabel Martin of Nacogdoches. He has a B.A. and M.E.D. from Stephen F. Austin University. He has been a speech and drama teacher at Texas City High School for 46 years, and is retiring this month. Gloria and John plan to travel to several cities in Texas visiting relatives and former students. In Chicago, a reception will be given by Adam and Miles Monroe, sons of the bride and God-children of the groom. They will continue their tour of the country visiting friends in Seattle and Taos, New Mexico, among other places. The couple will reside in Texas City.
