A remarkable career is that of Allison D. Oibbs, a Van Wert man who enlisted as a soldier In the Spanish-Amerioan war. The announcement of his marriage to Miss Bra Johnson, of Delaware, is a matter that oonoeras a large circle of their friends. Miss Johnson is a daughter of Judge Finley Johnson, who recently was assigned to the Supreme Oourt bench of the Philippine Islands. She is a relative of Mrs. W. F. Mills, of West Third street, and visited here last summer. Allison D. Gibbs is 38 years old, but it is•UOOtyOOO In theyears sgo as a soldier in a Colorado regiment. He left Ohio when his mother, a widow, married Steve Groves, of Van Wert. Gibbs saved enough money to take a short stenographer’s course in a university in Lincoln, Neb. He then became Court stenographer in Arrapohoe, Neb. Later he studied law with a Mr. Mo re head and was admitted to the bar. Shortly afterward he enlisted and went to the Philippines. At the dose of his term of enlistment he was fortunate in being connected with a big land deal in the Philippii where he cleared 8300,000. He then huug out his shingle as a lawyer in Manila. Having mastered the Spanish language he soon was engaged in cases where large interests were involved and thus seoursd handsome fees. He secured a fee of 887,000 in one case which was settled shortly before his coming th this oountry a few weeks ago.
