Friends Honor Verner A, Vanderhoofs With Party On Golden Anniversary.taThe Rev. and Mrs. Verner A. Vanderhool were honored on their golden wedding anniversary Wednesday night, June 30, with’* a party at the Scottsdale Baptist church.The Vanderhoofs are pioneer Arizonans and are widely known throughout the state. Mr. Van-derhoof' first came to Arizona in 1892 and settled in Phoenix. Before 1900 he attended the Tempe Territorial Normal school where he met his wife, the former Jane P. Martin. They were married in Tempe on June 30, 1898, and both entered the teaching profession and taught in Arizona schools until 1900 when they leased the L. C. Bryan ranch east of Scottsdale.W 1915 Mr. Vanderhoof-was appointed a colporter-missionary for Arizona by the American Baptisf;Publication Society of Philadelphia and served in that capacity for four years. In 1919 he was ordained as a Baptist minister at Scottsdale and since that time has traveled throughout the state as a missionary for the church.The Vanderhoofs are the parents of six children, four of whom are still living. They are: Mrs. Fred Mathis, Scottsdale: Mrs. W. W. Gay, Prescott: and James and Benjamin LiTther Vanderhoofs Phoenix. The couple has 10 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.At the reception last night a renewal of wedding vows for the honored guests was conducted by Rev. Marvin Anderson, pastor of the local Baptist church, assisted by Rev. Gerald Moyer.
