MONROE—GAMWELLThe wedding of Miss Virginia Church Gamwell, daughter of Mr and Mrs. Cecil Calvert Gamwell Jr., to Pfc. Willys Herbert Monroe, AUS, son of Dr. and Mrs. Wyllis M. Monroe of Pittsfield, Mass., is of interest to East Hampton. The bridegroom is the son of the former Miss Marjorie Bates, who visited relatives in East Hampton during her girlhood summers. Dr. Bates is Pittsfield Health Commissioner; a major now on leave in the 'Medical Corps at Fort Lee, Va.The wedding took place at South Congregational Church in Pittsfield on January 7: The bride was attended by her sisters, Mrs. John Jarvis Head and Mrs. M. J. Mc-Crudden Jr.; also by Mr. Monroe’s sister. Ensign Marjorie Bates Monroe, and Miss Eleanor Elting. Sally Swan was flower girl. Major Monroe was his son’s best man.The bride graduated in 1943 from Wetsbrook Junior College. Mr. Monroe was at Yale when he enlisted in 1943. He is now studying Japanese at the University of Michigan.
