LOTTERY CHARGE MAY BE BROUGHT IN COYNE’S CASEBridgeport Young Man Held in New Haven Conducted Gambling Scheme.Arrested in New Haven as a result |Of information given the police of that city by Lieut. E. O. Cronan, Robert F. Coyne, who up to a year ago lived in Berkshire avenue, today faces charges of conducting a lottery, the prizes being awarded on a gamble as to what the closing figures of the Wall street market may daily read.Coyne, according to Lieut. Cronan, when arrested had 2,000 of the lottery tickets in his possession and for a i time conducted a land office business j among employes of the Remington ; Arms Co. and other munition works in j Bridgeport. \The activities of the police in this city, however, are said to have prevented his successful carrying on of the business and he removed to New Haven. His chief source of revenue in New Haven was among the workers at th6 Winchester factory and prizes totaling $1,000 weekly wrere given.The tickets found in Coyne's possesion stated that their face value amounted to 25 cents and on each card a space for the insertion of the number, which the buyer gambled Would correspond or would come the nearest to corresponding with the daily financial clearings.Coyne is 30 years of age. and married. He states he has no trade and is not employed. Carl Vordenbaum, who conducts a cigar store at 276 Winchester avenue, was arrested with Coyne, full equipment for the sale of the lottery tickets being found in the former’s cigar store. Coyne is held in bonds of $1,500 and his alleged accomplice in bonds of $500.
