This ction.Jewish Wedding. The most notable society event of the current season was the wedding and feast at the luxurious home of Van Wert’s prominent Israelite, Mr. Abraham Jacobs, Wednesday evening, the* occasion being the union of his daughter, Miss Mattie Beryl, to Mr. Sig Bamberger, a prosperous young merchant of Celina. By seven o’clock, the hour announced for the sacred cremony by which two were to be made one, most of the guests arrived, consisting of the relatives of the bride and groom, the bride’s graduating class and a large number of her Van Wert friends.Presently the soft strains of Mendelssohn’s Wedding March announced the entrance of the bridal party, preceded by Rabbi Aarons, of Fort Wayne, who ascended the altar in one comer of the spacious drawing room, and prefaced the ceremony with an eloquent allusion to the sacredness of marriage and its attending blessings and responsibilities. The customary Jewish marriage rites followed, with an impressive mingling of Hebrew and Anglo-Saxon. As a part of the service, the bride and groom drank from the same cup of wine, to signalize their willingness to drink together from the cup of life, sharing its joys or sorrows, happiness or unhappiness, fortunes or misfortunes; after a Hebraic invocation of the Divine blessing, the married pair again drank from the cup, in token of joy. Then came many affectionate congratulations and wishes for the happy future of Mr, Bamberger and his handsome wife, who later entertained her friends with a song, very sweetly sung. The large concourse of guests then repaired to the dining-room where they relieved a very long table of a very large quantity of very tempting edibles, beginning with unleavened bread and ending with the bride’s cake, and we observed several romantic youthB and maidens surreptitiously pocketing pieces of proper size to dream over. The feast was interrupted by the receipt of many congratulatory messages from New York, Salt Lake City and other points. The toasts offered by Mr. Guilford L.[arble were happily responded to by the reverend Rabbi, the groom and his brother, and Mr. Geo. W. Kohn, Mr. L. X. Jacobs and others.Mr. and Mrs. Bamberger were the recipients of a large number of beautiful and costly presents.
