J. H. Sheridan has presented the public library with a handsome set of Shakespeare, six volumes. The Methodist church ladies have prepared a New England dinner to be served between 5 and 8 o'clock this evening. It is reported that the orange ship ments from Southern California will be routed on the San Joaquin division after March 1st. Mrs. Geo. Wallace recently arrived from Galesburg, Inl. Mr. and Mrs. Wallace has taken the Stroble house. They are much pleased with Cali fornia, Mrs. EmmaJ. Karr has purchased through J. W. Shaffer, three lots on M street between Beale and King and will erect two neat brick cottages thereon for rent. The Fraternal Brothers of Kern turned out sixty strong last night to the reception tendered them by the sister lodge in Bakersfield. The en tertainers did the handsome thing in a handsome way and the guests are speaking enthusiastically of the pleas ant evening spent. After a fine sup per dancing was indulged in.
