A Mom rose wedding was seriously delayed and almost entirely broken off Friday by the opposition of (lie brfde's father. He* had objections to his prospective son-in-law and as the contracting parties were of different religious creed, opposed the marriage on that ground also. By a clever ruse lie almost succeeded in sotting the officiating clergyman out of town. The guests assembled in the church at the appointed time-but two hours passed by and no bridegroom appeared. An adjournment was taken for dinner, after which the spectators reassembled with many additions. Finally about 2 o’clock the obdurate father was forced to give in and the long delayed ceremony was performed as originally in. tended, but at a 2a,ter hour. The bride was Mir:- Duel la Smith and the groom Peter Finnerty. The marriage was solemnized in SL Joseph’s Catholic church by Rev. Father Dal.v ol Farm- i ington. The bride was attired in white albatros. trimmed with satin and was attended by Miss Bird Finnerty. The groom wore the regulation black . and was accompanied by Mr. Boon of Fort Madison as best man. The bride is possessed of many excellent traits and is one of the most charming young ladies of the neighboring city: and that the groom- is a young man of good family H.'rd h-s friends all speak highly of him. Those present extended congratulations and good wishes to the happy pair.
