Whipple-Slocum Vows Spoken inArmy Air Base ChapelMiss Betty Jane Slocum whose engagement to Lt Chandler S Whipple was announced on Januai y 30 by her parents, Mr. and Mrs M B. Slocum of 2751 Doresta road, became the lieutenants bride at 4 o’clock on Saturday afternoon, February 6 The ceremony took place in the attractive Army Base Chapel in Columbus.South Carolina where Lt Whipple is stationed Miss Slocum accompanied by her mother, left San Marino for Columbus following the engagement announcement,Mrs, Slocum was her daughter’s only attendant and alsogave her in marriage as Mr Slocum was unable to be present. Mr. and Mrs. Ashley P. Whipple, of Bristol N. H , were in attendance and Mr. Whipple assisted his son as best man. Lt.Norman MeCutcheon, a friend of the groom since prep schooldays, ushered.Lt Perkins, Chaplain of the Army Air Post, performed the ceremony in the Chapel situated on the top of a hill and made beautiful with white gladioliagainst a background of cool, green fern. Tall white tapers sh«*d a soft glow over the altar as the vows were said.The bride was lovely in a military blue suit with blue accessories. Her hat was a smartoff the face model and both hatand veil duplicated tht color of her suit. White orchids formed her effective corsage. Mrs. Slocum was attired in light b!ue wool with navy blue accessories and wore white gardenias fashioned into a corsage.Immediately following the exchange of wedding vows, Lt and Mrs. Whipple left for a short honeymoon as the groom must return to duty the following Tuesday. The Whipples have established residence temporarilyin Columbus.Mrs. Slocum returned to San Marino last week after stopping in Chicago and Kansas City toenjoy visits with friends.
