“Jesse JamesMany favorable comments have been heard from those who saw the new technicolor feature, “Jesse James.” The picture has drawn the largest crowds in many a year, according to Jimmy Redmond of the Bonham staff. Some have thought the picture would play up Jesse James as a hero, but when one considers the picture in all its phases, it illustrates the base trickery resorted to by the unscrupulous agents of the time, causing brave men to become outlaws. The colorful scene as the train leaves the station and a band plays “Marching Through Georgia” made a hit with us, but not so with a certain one from the Sunny South who would have preferred “Dixie.” And there was real humor by the old-fashioned editor who dictated heated editorials every time his ire was aroused. Of course, the hand compositor couldn’t keep up with him had he been 20 times as fast. But that makes no difference except to a typographical engineer. It was a picture we greatly enjoyed, and we think It left the impression, after all, that crime does not pay in the long run.
