Jorepb HarerUeld, of Weller Tow nab I p.Saturday evening, Feb.21, the cheerful home of Joseph Haverfleld, in Weller township, was the Hceueofone of the moat pleasant surprises of which the writer baa been a witness. Mr. Haverfleld has been one of those who any,“friends canuot surprise me,1' but he belongs to that class no longer. He is one of Richland county's jurors and his birthday falling on Saturday, his friends chose the time of his arrival hoiue tosurprlse him. He did not say that he was not surprised when Jacob Ward Poet, G. A. R, and friends and relatives to the number of 105 met him. After all had partaken bountifully of the oyster supper prepared by the ladles. W. A. PI itenger in behalf of Jacob Ward Post and Mr. Haverfleld’s many friends, and relatives presented him a handsome easy chair, with a few appropriate remarks. Mrs. Haverfleld having taken part In preparing the surprise for her husband was much disconcerted when, through the same genial and eloquent spokesman, a similar chair was presented to her by her many, many friends. That these presents mAy be the source of comfort throughout a long and happy old age is the hope of their many friends who presented ♦hem. After enjoying some splendid music and a social cnat, all repaired to their homes feeling that It had been an evening well spent. *
