Sylvia and Joe De Laronde recently celebrated their 50th wed ding anniversary.50th anniversary44 *On Sunday afternoon, January 29, approximately 300 friends and relatives of Sylvia and Joe DeLaronde gathered at the Selkirk Lutheran Hall to celebrate -their 50th anniversary.This event took place January 28, 1934 at the Hecla Lutheran Church, the first marriage to be performed in the church, which still stands. The bride, Sylvia, was attended by her sister, Helga Johnson. The groom, Joe, was attended by Sylvia’s brother, Fedor Thordarson. Sylvia and Joe raised two children, Helen and Joseph. Their family now includes son-in-law George Walker and daughter-in-law Lou DeLaronde.Grandchildren and greatgrandchildren include: Joanne and Wayne Ksionzek children Tim and Denessa; Diane Isfeld and son Jason; Pat and Rob Sareault daughters Joey in and Jill; Chris Walker; Joey DeLaronde; Dee Dee DeLaronde; Darryl and Heidi and theiri 'children Jonathan and Christine DeLaronde.Sylvia and Joe were escorted by Paul Paulson, a close friend, and Helga Johnson. Seated at the head table were Sylvia and Joe, Sylvia’s sister Helga Johnson, Freda Johnson, Lovisa Bell, all of Selkirk, Stina Benson, B.C., Rosa Goodman, Gimli, brothers Fanuel Thordarson, Winnipeg, Larus Thordarson and wife Clara, Selkirk, Joe’s cousin Mabel Gibbons, Ontario and Paul Paulson, Hecla.Letters of congratulations came from: P.M. Pierre Trudeau;Governor General Ed Schreyer; Lieutenant Governor Pearl McGonigal; Premier Howard Pawley; Ed Broadbent, MP-NDP; Gary Filmon, Opposition Leader; Mr. L. R. Montpetit, President, Northern Trans. Co.; as well as Terry Sargeant, M.P.; Mr, and Mrs. John Bucklaschuk, MLA; and Mayor and Mrs. Bud Oliver of Selkirk.
