Hood, president of the Terre Haute NAACP. and a group of NAACP representatives, including Rev. and Mrs E. B. Phillips, Mesdames Anna Fitts, James Martin, Cynthia Wolfe, and Willa Roberts. and Dr. E. Mackey of Indianapolis.They also presented to the governor a petition asking support of the bill. a.id the Ministerial Association of Terre Haute sent a letter to the governor endorsing the civil rights arid FEPC bills which have been introducedin the Legislature.* * *An assembly program in recognition of Negro History Week was held at the Booker T. Washing on school last week.All grades of the school presented skits, with D. Carver, David Southern, and Mary Ellen Brown, first grade students, giving portraits of Frederick Douglass and Phyllis Wheatley. \ poem Song About Lincoln” was given by Donna Cork, second grade pupil.Third grade pupris gave “Sorigs About Negroes,” telling about Benjamin Banneker, George Washington Carver, and Joe Louis, while “Famous Negroes and Their Pictures” was given by pupils in the fourth grade.After the assembly sang “Battle Hymn of the Republic.” Marcia Mills introduced the group. Delores Cherry spoke on George W. Carver. Other pupils and their subjects were LaRosa Bush, Ralph Bunche; Ellen Randell, Mary McLeod Bethune; Sandra Sen-ter, Dr. Charles Drew; and Jacqueline Wilson, Ernest Just.and a poem was read by Waverly Carmichael. Also participating were Marilyn Gordon and Williatr Bennett.A group of Negro spirituals was sung by pupils of the sixth grade, and Silhouettes of Several Great Americans” was presented by the seventh graders. “At the Closed Gate of Justice” by Janet Perry highlighted the eighth grade students’ skit, and Mary Martin recited “O. Rosetta Jones talked on Paul Lawrence Dunbar,Announcement of bequests mado at the January annual meeting of the Phyllis Wheatley Association was made last week by Mrs. Hattie Parks, president.Listed were $25 to the United Negro College Fund, $50 to the Colored Day Nursery, which cares for children of employed parents; $50, to Hyte Center, which cares for social and recreational needs; $22.50 to the Circle Sixteen club, which promotes a recreational and social program; $25 to the polio drive, $25 to the cancer fund, and $25 to the Terre Haute chapter of the American Red Cross.The association will also give a scholarship to a worthy Terre Haute student this spring.The Phyllis Wheatley Association was incorporated July 26, 1923, as a non-profit corporation to do educational, charity, and social bet-Junior members of the Eloise School * of Cosmetology entertained at a tea last Sunday afternoon. Catherine Cheeks, and Ida Benford.The Song Lovers choral group observed Race Relations Day last Sunday night with a special song service in Shelburn. After the Church at Shelburn. After the service a social hour was held in the assembly hall, where refreshments were served. Music was furnished by the church orchestra.Revival services planned to last indefinitely are starting at the South Fourteenth Street Church of God in Christ this week, conducted by Mrs. L, C.
