Sullivan an'i Miss Mary Melaven was solemnized at the Cathedral at 7:30 o’clock yesterday in the presence of relatives and a large number of friends. The ceremony was performed by Kev. Father Toomey. There was no attendants and at the conclusion of the ceremony the bridal party repaired to the residence of Mrs. Stafford, on Sixth street, sister of the bride, where, after congratulations had been extended, a wedding feast was served, and during the day a large number of friends of the happy cou-{le called to extend their eongratu-ations. This evening a formal reception will he held. The bride wore a gown of brown silk but carried no dowers. She wras the picture of loveliness as she stood before the great altar, with the subdued light adding to the charm of the surroundings. Happiness shone in the faces of the bride and groom as theyplighted their troth.The bride is a young lady of very amiable disposition, sunny temper-ment and the happy possessor of those charms which are the heritage of true and noble womanhood. She is a general favorite with a very largecircle of friends.The groom is one of the most worthy young men in the city. Heis an employe of the Herald composing room and has always been noted for his exemplary habits, sterling character and trne manhood. For several years he has been prominently identilied with labor movements in \ this city and has served several termsas president of the Dubuque Typo-j graphical Union and as president of the Trades and Labor Congress, fie 1 is an able writer on economic ques- j tions and a splendid speaker, it is the wish of the entire newspaper fraternity of this city that he and his lovely bride may enjoy a long life of unalloyed happiness. They will he j at home on Dodge street.
