With The Armed ForcesStaff Sergeant James F. Chastain, a native of Lumberton and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joyce F. Chastain of Spring Lake, has been assigned as a new recruiter in Lumberton, according to information from the United States Amy Raleigh Distict Recruiting Command.A ten-year Army veteran, Chastain has been a recruiter since 1972. He comes to Lumberton from the St. Louis District Recruiting Command. Previous military assignments include three years of service in Vietnam; 1st Ranger Batallion, Fort Stewart, Georgia; and the 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.A highly decorated Amy veteran, Staff Sergeant Chastain has been awarded the Bronze Star with Valor; the Good Conduct Medal; the Purple Heart; the Army Commendation Medal with Valor; the National Defense Service Medal; the Vietnam Campaign Medal; the Vietnam Service Medal; and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry.Chastain is a graduate of the Noncommissioned Officers Academy; Ranger School; Jumpmaster School; and theAmy’s Recruiting and Career Counseling School. He holds an Associate of Arts Degree from Columbia College, Columbia, Missouri.Active in community affairs and youth activities, while living in Springfield, Illinois, Chastain was a member of the Jaycees and on the Board of Directors and Coach of the Junior Football League. He is married and the father of one child. The family is living inLumberton.Chastain joins veteran Amy recruiter Sergeant First Class Jerry Owen. Their office is located at 203 E. It was adopted in honor of Henri Dunant, a Swiss businessman who was influential in founding the organization.
