Barbara Renee Sandoval became the bride of Craig Steckelberg during a formal, double-ring and candlelight ceremony held at St. Jude’s Mission. The Rev. Wilford Diamond officiated the Oct. 5 wedding.The bride is the daughter of George and Margo Sandoval, of Alamogordo and the groom is the son of Lyle and Diane Steckelberg of College Station, Texas.White baskets of roses, carnations in the bride’s colors were set at each side of the altar. Guitarists for theceremony were Zeke Balboa, Louis Gamboa. “The Wedding Song,” “Beginning Today,” and “All My Day,” were among musical selections perform-ed.The bride’s father gave her away.Sandoval wore a gown of embroidered organza with a petal neckline edge. The bodice of the dress was also embroidered with petals, and featured off the shoulder puffy belle sleeves. The full skirt of the dress, was scattered with embroidery, and had a petal bottom edge falling into a cathedral train. The bride’s veil was of Venice lace and was held together with a seed pearl cap. The veil was fingertip length and was a triple tiered Italian embroidered circle veil. She carried a bouquet of azales with silk roses of white, pink and candy with satin streamers. She also wore pearl earrings and necklace, a gift from her parents.Matron of Honor was Helen Cleu Huson of Midland, Texas. She wore a pink gown of taffeta with off the shoulder belle sleeves and pink baby’s breath in her hair. She carried silk roses of mauve and pink. Bridesmaids included: Oralia Avila, Irene Silva, Sally Rodriquez. They wore gowns in mauve in an emMr. and Mrs. Craig Steckelbergpire style with puffly sleeves and a layered back. Each also had baby’s breath in their hair and carried silk mauve roses. Additional bridesmaids included:Dana Brown; Carla Steckleber, sister of the groom; and Becky Silva. All wore gowns identical to that of the Matron of Honor’s except in a candy color. All carried similar accessories.Serving as the Madrinas were Oralia and Johnny Avila, who placed the traditional lasso around the couple during the ceremony.Best Man was Tom Ethridge of Las Vegas, Nev. Groomsmen included: Johnny Avila, Delmar Silva, Sam Silva Jr, (Padrino); Randy Qhibodeau, George Sandoval II, brother of the bride; and Shawn Ker-nohan. Candlelighters were Vince Silva and Robert Carter. Ringbearer was Oscar John, brother of the bride and flower girl was Theresa Avila.A reception and dance was held at the Elks Club following the ceremony. Guests at the reception were treated to a buffet dinner. The reception area was scattered with traditional Mexican decorations. Two four-tiered cakes with a fountain middle on each cake with stairways connecting the cakes toped with a bride-groom figurine music box was served to guests. The cakes were decorated in the bride’s colors of mauve, pink and candy flowers. Marachi music entertained the guests and the group Alamo played at the dance in the evening. Attending the guestbook was Margo Hinton.The couple spent their wedding night in Cloudcroft and then went to California for a honeymoon.The groom is stationed at an isolated base in Italy. The bride will reside in College Station, Texas where she will work and finish her studies at Texas A M.
