Hendryx, deputy county recorder, was Jarred out of his reveries of figures and molesand bounds by a timid rap on the office door. Throwing open the portalshe found a pair of blushing and timid-appearing people—a maid and a man. Inquiring their wishes the genial recorder was apprised of the fact that his nocturnal visitors were on matrimony bent.The man in the case gave his nameGerald Seydel, and his occupation and residence as a dentist at Anamosa. j he young woman was introduced as Miss Hazel McCormick, also of Ammosa. Dr. Seydel announced that he had telephoned to the county clerk's office requesting provisions for his late at rival at Marion and for the provision of a marriage license. He could not understand why the clerk's office wfas dark and deserted and begged of Mr. Hen-dryx his aid in straightening out therough places in the road to true love.Seth is a sympathetic sort of a fellow' and he got on the job writh speed and alacritv After much telephoning he finally located Miss Neva Buck, deputy clerk, at a social function ai d persuaded her to come to the court house to issue the license. Then the fact developed that Dr. Seydel had neglected to provide himself with tne witness required by law for oil tnose who would procure marriage licenses. More telephoning, and a Cedar rtapids dentist, a S. IT. I. classmate of theAnamosa man, was brought to thecourt house to certify to the derailsconnected with the obtaining of the license, and finally the bit of paper wasissued. si MAll these details out of the way and another resort to the telephone aroused A. J. Northrup, pastor of the Methodist church from his slumbers and he agreed to arise and perform the marriage ceremony. The party then betook Itself to the Methodist parsonage where tho Anamosa people were made man and wife.
