Former Resident Is Married to Maurice Willson At Ottumwa, Iowa, February 6 Special To The Hawk-Eye. Morning Sun, Ia, Feb. 7.—Miss Freda Baird, of Newport, was unit ed in marriage to Maurice Willson of Fairfield, at Ottumwa, Ia., Thurs day, Feb. 6. Following the wedding they went to Superior, Neb. on a honeymoon trip to the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Elliott. After Feb. 15 they will be at home on a farm near Fairfield. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. T. A. Baird, of Newport. She grew to young womanhood here and was graduated from the local high school in 1922. Four years later she was graduated from Coe college, Cedar Rapids, and while there was affiliated with the Kappa, Delta sorority. Since that time she has been a high school instructor, having taught the past two years in Springville, Ia. The bridegroom is the son of Mrs. J. C. Elliott, grew to young manhood on a farm west of Morning Sun and was graduated from the local high school in 1924. Later he attended the State Teacher's college at Cedar Falls and while there was affiliated with the Theta Phi Beta fraternity. Mr. Willson has been in business on a dairy farm near Fairfield the past few years. They have many friends throughout this entire community. The second quarterly conference of the local Free Methodist church will begin here Friday evening, and will continue throughout Sunday, Feb. 9. Rev. R. T. Fine, former pastor here, will be present and will have charge of the services assisting Rev. J. H. Grim. A meeting of the Morning Sun branch of the Red Cross was held with Mrs. E. V. Smiley, county chair man, Thursday afternoon, Feb. 6, and the following officers were elected for the ensuing year: charman, Mrs. E. V. Smiley; vice-chairman, Miss Etta Ross; secretary, Miss Mary Kilpat rick; treasurer, W. C. Swan. The fol lowing disaster committee were ap pointed: L. R. Pierce, K. L. MecClur kin, Rev. H. G. Patterson, F. O. Jar vis and F. M. Brown. Financial re ports were given. There was a report in regard to the distribution of cloth ing to the needy. The local branch has a membership of 114. Mrs. E. A. Baird has returned from a visit with relatives in Colorado and Nebraska. Mr. and Mrs. F. O. Jarvis and son Earl attended a recepion given at the home of Mrs. Jarvis’ brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. William Scott, near Sperry, in honor of their son Edmund and wife who were united in marriage at Muscatine Wednesday, February 5. A banquet was served at 7 o'clock, there being 26 guests present. Later in the evening a crowd of 53 gathered and gave the happy couple a lively old fashioned charivari. Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Scott will be at home soon on the William E. Scott farm. Rev. and Mrs. H. G. Patterson, J. E. Willson and Mrs. Anna Willson mo tored to Oakdale Thursday to see Miss Bertha Willson who is in the sani trium there. While Bertha is not gaining in strength as her friends would like to see her she is happy and contented and very glad indeed to see them. The Young Women's Mission ary society of the Reformed Presby terian church sent her two beautiful potted plants. Mrs. Maude McHaffy and Mrs. O. M. Hensleigh went to Chicago Friday to spend a few days with their brother Arthur Mellinger of London, England, who is in Chicago on business.
