Camp Claiborne, where the 34th division is to be stationed, is 16 miles south of Alexandria, La, The camp already houses 800 regular army troops and 500 volunteers under the selective service law.The camp is being erected at a cost estimated at 12 million dollars.• Three wells and one elevated storage tank of 250,000-gallon capacity are in operation with six more wells and two more storage tanks are nearing completion. The water distribution system consists of approximately 38 miles of water mains, assuring the Iowa guardsmen an adequate supply at all times.Tents in the camp will be “winterized” with floors and sidewalls. It is understood that they are elevated about the ground, a step taken to increase their capacity for retaining heat.
